MILD Combustion

Combustion processes in which reactants are preheated and diluted through mixing with hot combustion products hold promise for emission reduction in practical combustion devices. My work with preheated and diluted (sometimes called Moderate or Intense Low-Oxygen Dilution, or MILD) combustion lies both in the fundamental understanding of how hot product dilution augments canonical combustion problems as well as its application to practical devices.  This work involves fundamental experimental combustion experiments, droplet and gaseous simulations with complex fuels, and the characterisation of a novel low-emission combustor: the Lean Azimuthal Flame, or LEAF, combustor.
