Spray Flame Dynamics

The prediction of dynamic and unstable behaviour in spray flames is an important capability for the successful design combustion technologies and their stable operating conditions.   In particular, predicting phenomena of ignition and extinction are exceedingly challenging for numerical modellers. I work to quantify local and global extinction in spray flames through flame visualisation and flame sheet statistics as flames approach global extinction conditions. This work requires the use of high-speed optical diagnostics including chemiluminescence and planar laser induced fluorescence.
